Job Summary:

As a part of the team, you will be providing technical support in Emergency and Orthopedic Departments, and inpatient nursing. Your main responsibilities will involve assisting providers in orthopedic procedures and the application of casts, orthopedic appliances, and traction equipment. Additionally, you will be educating clients and staff on the proper care and application of orthopedic equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Support providers in the care of patients with orthopedic issues including application, adjustment, repair, and removal of casts, splints, and appliances.
  • Assist during orthopedic procedures, post-operative care, and in the Emergency Department by providing technical support, wound care, and clerical assistance.
  • Set up and adjust traction equipment following established procedures.
  • Provide instructions to clients on the maintenance of orthopedic appliances.
  • Maintain orthopedic supplies, coordinate equipment repair, and order supplies as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Completion of an orthopedic cast tech training program or six months of relevant experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support certification within one month of hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of casting and splinting techniques.
  • Familiarity with orthopedic appliances and medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and use proper body mechanics.
  • Experience in patient care, fracture management, and documentation.
  • Ability to lift patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of inpatient setting experience or relevant medical experience.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and minor patient care procedures.
  • Skills in patient care, wound dressing, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Experience with traction application and equipment.
Notes:
  • Weekend Standby Cast Tech shift at SMC on a rotational basis.
  • ARTICLE 5 - HOURS, OVERTIME AND SCHEDULES, WORKLOAD; Section G - Temporary Re-Assignments.
