Summary of the position:
The MIG Welder position requires an individual to perform MIG welding on a wide range of components.
This position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Indiana.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of welding techniques, material characteristics and structural fundamentals.
- Working with different sized bases and frames, structural steel and plate steel weldments.
- Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately.
- Determining correct gas ratios and wire feed speed.
- Testing the strength of each joint during and after project completion.
- Driving a forklift, operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials.
Education:
- High School Education or equivalent.
- Welding Certificate preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- 5-10+ years of welding experience preferred and/or welding trades schooling.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Understand technical blueprints.
- Exhibit customer-focused behavior through effective communication with internal customers, peers and leadership team.
- Computer skills required (i.e., spreadsheets, data entry, email).
- Ability to use precision measurement device to work within tight tolerances.
- Ability to work with cranes, sharp edges on machined parts, electrical components and moving parts by carts.
- Lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate.
- Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours.
- Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist.
- Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards.
- Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
- Required to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.
- Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
- Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
