Munitions Handler

Amentum is seeking a Munitions Handler to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Munitions Handler assists with a variety of warehousing and demilitarization duties involving stock movement, inventory, and disassembly/destruction of munitions within controlled environments.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Typical Responsibilities Include:
- Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
- Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
- Perform manual, technical, and mechanically assisted duties involved with storage, receipt, shipment, inspection, maintenance, or testing of explosive ordnance items or components.
- Perform destruction and demilitarization of ammunition and explosive components.
- May be assigned to various areas including but not limited to: Ammo Processing, Disposal Operations, Production Support, Storage and Inventory.
- Under Leader/Crafts direct supervision, perform warehousing duties involving stock movement into or out of storage facilities, physical inventory, warehouse arrangement, accessibility, inspect, load, package, move, or mark any ordnance items or components.
- Operate mobile equipment such as MHE, vehicles for transporting personnel, tools, equipment and ammunition components. May operate computer-based programs such as the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP) and AIT scanning tools.
- Accurately record and report all Munition and Munition component accountability and discrepancies to the appropriate authority.
- Remove dunnage, maintaining a clean, secure and safe work area to include but not limited to pulling weeds, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms in/or around explosive operations buildings & magazines.
- Must ensure all doors and windows are properly secure in work areas. May perform other duties as assigned and may be reassigned to other depot locations as workload fluctuates.
- Frequently: standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, carrying and pulling 25lbs, pulling 50lbs, stooping, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling reaching out, overhead, grasping, gripping, dangerous or moving machinery, power/hand tools, discriminate colors.
- Constantly: motor vehicle use, keyboard/mouse use, verbal communication/written communication; hearing audible alarm, high acuity; Vision closeup, depth perception.
- Occasionally lifting and pushing 50lbs, twisting, fine motor control, sense of touch, sense of smell, repetitive manual task, extreme cold, heat, frequent temperature changes, hazardous substances/waste, potential for skin lacerations, Overtime/irregular hours, work alone
- Never: carrying 50lbs, crawling, apply torque, ultra-violent exposure, noise >80 decibels, confined spaces, high energy sources, hazardous material team member, vibration hazards, climbing ladders/scaffolds/stairs, working at heights >6, potential for thermal burns
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma/equivalent.
- Must satisfactorily complete the Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working Ammunition Operations required by AMC Regulation 350-4 within 90 days of hire.
- Follow all pertinent local, state and federal compliance documents and procedures.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required training in accordance with Amentum’s Master Training Plan.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver’s license unless physically unqualified to obtain such a license.
- Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
- Must have the ability to operate automated systems within a munitions demilitarization process.
- Must be willing to work overtime, varying hours and/or rotating shifts. Must be willing and able to be trained to operate forklift/fork truck or material handling lifting devices.
- Must be willing and able to be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
- Must be willing and able to work in a procedural compliant environment.
- Must be willing and able to work in an environmental and safety compliant environment.
- Must be willing and able to wear various levels of personal protective equipment to include Safety hat, shoes, gloves, and glasses
- Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
- Ability to speak publicly and communicate clearly during normal and crisis situations.
- Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-orientated work.
- Demonstrated willingness to be a team player.
- Takes initiatives to meet or exceed performance expectations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating lifting devices, hoists, and overhead cranes.
- Experience working in a hazardous materials environment.
- Unexploded ordnance experience.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
- Experience in a production or work management atmosphere.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.
