Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Gillings School’s Department of Nutrition is a global leader in research and training. We are the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. We engage in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools’ approaches to health, and thus our department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. Our faculty expertise spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to delivery. Our faculty and students work throughout North Carolina and reach populations in China, India, Malawi, Spain and the Philippines, to name a few.

Position Summary:

Seeking a skilled and collaborative data analyst to assist with a pilot study that will recruit up to 25 older adults with type 1 diabetes to provide nutrition, physical activity, glucose, and other health-related data. The data analyst will aid the team in wrangling and integrating data from various sources and inputs, including continuous glucose monitoring devices, insulin pumps, dietary and physical activity recalls, accelerometers, medical records, and survey information. The analyst will lead data wrangling and management, plan and develop protocols for data analyses, program all analyses, and construct data visualizations. Other responsibilities will include attending team meetings (remotely), mentoring students in research analysis, and assistance in compiling presentations and publications.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Relevant Training
* Complex data wrangling (time-series data from multiple wearable devices)
* Biomedical data analysis (biostatistics, epidemiology, data science)
* Data visualization (e.g., overlaying multiple types of data collected over a 24-hour period)
* Programming (SAS, R preferred, Python)
* Type 1 diabetes clinical care and self-management

Relevant Experiences
* Nutrition research, including dietary assessment data (e.g., 24-hour dietary recalls)
* Analysis with Type 1 diabetes-specific data sources (e.g., continuous glucose monitoring data, insulin data)
