Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics- Environmental EconomicsLocation:The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TNOpen Date:Aug 27, 2025Description:Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 9-month tenure-track (75% research, and 25% teaching). This position will be part of a cluster hire that will strengthen the University of Tennessee’s ability to develop a national reputation in the area of resilient agricultural and forestry systems (RAFS). The RAFS cluster will include six faculty with home units in the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), Herbert College of Agriculture, Tickle College of Engineering, and Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs. Subject: Environmental Economics, with an emphasis on studying decision-making, and the incentives and policies required to align private choices with increased resilience and the use of technologies developed throughout the RAFS cluster. We seek a candidate with an interest in interdisciplinary research on topics related to technology adoption, input choices, (bio) waste and byproduct management, pollution, and policy and market mechanisms for improving environmental outcomes in the context of agricultural, food, and forestry systems.Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) lead and/or participate in interdisciplinary academic and research programming focusing on environmental economics; 2) lead and/or participate in efforts to secure extramural funding to support the interdisciplinary research program; 3) publish in high quality disciplinary and multidisciplinary journals; 4) teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses; 5) mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students; and 6) participate in service activities of the RAFS Cluster, Departments, UTIA, College, University, and profession.Start date and salary: The expected start date is August 1, 2026. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, and granting tenure upon initial appointment will be based on qualifications. The University of Tennessee has a competitive benefits package, and 9-month tenure-track faculty are eligible for summer salary. The start-up package for the position is designed to support the launch of the cluster hire.Qualifications:Qualifications: Ph.D., or ABD with an expected completion date before August 1, 2026, in applied economics, agricultural economics, forestry economics, economics, or a closely related field; excellent communication skills; ability to work in disciplinary and interdisciplinary teams.
