Position Summary

Firefighter/Paramedic's undergeneral supervision perform fire prevention, fire suppression,hazardous material incident response and emergency rescue andmedical assistance duties to protect life and property; performsrelated responsibilities asrequired.

Job Description
  • Conduct fire safety, home safety,fire extinguisher and pre-fire planning inspections
  • Provide information to the public, installsmoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit schools, andparticipate in public education standbys.
  • Performs fire suppression duties by responding to emergency firealarms, structural, residential, commercial, industrial, chemical,petroleum, vehicle, aircraft and Wildland fires; applying theappropriate extinguishing agents to the source of the fire.
  • Operates various pieces of fire equipment andgear for fire suppression and control; drives and operates fireapparatus; search and rescue; ventilation and salvage operations.
  • Provides written reports detailing specificfirefighting, rescue actions taken on scene, and patient care.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls byevaluating situations and transfers patients to medical facilities.
  • Provides emergency and non-emergency medicalprocedures both on scene and in a moving vehicle.
  • Treat patients in accordance with establishedEmergency Medical Service Protocols and AMR / Kurtz Fire Departmentpolicy.
  • Conduct daily and weekly vehicle andequipment inspections as assigned.
  • Ensure allvehicle and equipment discrepancies are documented and reported tothe on-duty Fire Captain.
  • Participate in allrequired training sessions, including, but not limited to; livefire drills, performance evaluation drills, ongoing skillsmaintenance, practice and training, annual OSHA drills, EMS majorskills and any other mandatory Company training.
  • Reviews paperwork for accuracy and correctprocess.
  • Implements corrective/preventivemeasures.
  • Cooperates with Internal Audit,Compliance and HR on any recommendations and changes to complianceand legal workflow issues.
  • Complies andenforces all policies and procedures.
  • Mustsuccessfully complete all required Compliance Training within therequired time period and must have no compliance related correctiveaction during the current review period.

Qualifications:
  • IL State issued,International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or FireService Professional Qualifications System (ProBoard)certifications as a minimum: Firefighter I, HazardousMaterials-Operations
  • IL State issued EMT-P /Paramedic
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Must possess IDPH EMT-/P license
  • Illinois certified BOF
  • AHA CPR card
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Successful background investigations withMVR, & criminal records,
  • Physicalfitness/agility
  • Drug/alcohol screening

  • HighSchool diploma or GED required.
