ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a MILSAT Technician for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, AK. 

The Wide Band Global SATCOM Technician (WGS) performs all O & M actions required to maintain the Modernization of Enterprise Terminals (MET), including coordination with the OCS, troubleshooting, restoral, and documentation. Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturer's manuals or similar documents.  This is a negotiated union position.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Understands and follows DISA authorizing documents for all WGS circuits and systems; plans for contingencies.
  • Coordinates with appropriate WGS controlling agencies; performs COMSEC coordination and updates; ensures all equipment is available for required missions.
  • Operates the WGS terminals in accordance with controlling agencies and directives; ensures all TMDE has current calibration; provides service and required training to all authorized GCN and other users.
  • Performs all maintenance required to maintain a 99.5% availability and 99.9% reliability; performs maintenance without impacting system availability, if possible; maintains a maintenance tracking system in accordance with local and DoD policies, incorporating all DISA and manufacturer maintenance tasks.
  • Performs preventive maintenance in accordance with local and DoD policies, incorporating all DISA and manufacturer preventive maintenance tasks; performs circuit, trunk, and link reliability testing; performs required maintenance if equipment fails tasks and notifies COR if this repair cannot be completed within 48-hours.
  • Performs demand maintenance in accordance with local and DoD policies, incorporating all DISA and manufacturer maintenance tasks; performs circuit, trunk, and link troubleshooting and restoral; documents all maintenance and troubleshooting actions; notifies COR if higher level technical assistance is required.
  • Ensures the EPS is available at all times in the event of loss of primary power; performs operator checks and preventive maintenance.
  • Tests and ensures all HEMP items and facilities maintain designed protection.
  • Performs and documents all component and equipment requisition and turn-in in accordance with applicable directives and local procedures.
  • Maintains spare parts for WGS terminals; performs inventories and maintains accountability for all GFP; initiates, documents, and tracks all requisitions and turn-ins through appropriate supply support.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs/restores all equipment and circuit outages, including power or ancillary equipment; documents all actions, notifies appropriate agencies of outages and restoral actions.
  • Establishes circuits in accordance with appropriate authorizing documents (SAA, ODM, TSO); prepares and maintains circuit diagrams; performs testing to ensure circuit standards.
  • Notifies the COR for authorization if cannibalization becomes necessary.
  • Ensures maintenance activities do not violate warranties; track equipment under warranty using the maintenance tracking system; arrange for warranty exchange with vendors or supply points in accordance with RMA requirements and local guidance.
  • Maintains maintenance and operational data, including SERs for WGS equipment failures, HAZCON reports, and other equipment and circuit outages; maintains circuit history records and data cards; prepares and submits outage and HAZCON reports in accordance with DISA circulars or other directives. * Coordinates with COR for any equipment modifications; reviews and plans government-approved or mandated modifications; notifies the COR upon completion or of any adverse implications of the modifications.
  • Maintains proficiency in all areas, and obtains annual certifications as required.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • The use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.
  • Understanding and following directions.
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
  • Working cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.
  • Performing duties in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in satellite communications operations and maintenance.
  • Successful completion of Satellite Communications O & M
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and an intermediate level.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have a current Secret clearance and ability to maintain a secret clearance throughout employment.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test

 

Preferred

  • Previous government contracting experience.
