Portland Community College's non-credit Dental Programs provide students and working professionals career training and professional development courses in the field of dentistry. We are currently seeking part-time faculty members who have current content knowledge, who can balance academics with practical application, and are committed to equitable student success.

Below are the non-credit Dental Programs currently accepting applications. To be considered for a part-time faculty position, your application must demonstrate the Instructor Qualifications outlined below. When applying, you will be asked which of the below dental program(s) you are interested in.

Integrated Community Dental Assisting

The Integrated Community Dental Assisting provides didactic and hands-on training to students in preparation for the Dental Assisting National Board Exams. The program is split into 3 terms with each term including an online classroom component, onsite hands-on training, an externship, and recommended certification exams. Minimum Instructor qualifications:

  • 5 plus years experience as a chair side Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), and An Oregon Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certificate in the state of Oregon.

Oregon Oral Radiology Certification Prep

The PCC RHS prep course is convenient with our combined online didactic learning, and weekend hands-on lab classes. This course meets the criteria to take Oregon's Clinical and Didactic Radiologic Proficiency Exam administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Minimum Instructor qualifications:

  • 5 years experience as one of the following
    • Chair side Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or
    • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certificate in the state of Oregon, or a Dental Hygienist with an Oregon license.
    • Must hold a Certificate from Oregon Board of Dentistry to be an instructor for Radiologic Proficiency for dental Assistants.
    • Passed either the American Dental Association's National Board examination or the Radiation Health and Safety examination conducted by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

Dental Restorative Functions Endorsement

Dental Restorative Functions Endorsement is an introduction to the techniques and materials used in restorative dentistry, including amalgam and composite. Participants learn restorative techniques on WREB-approved Dentoforms and provide a variety of restorative experiences on patients under indirect supervision of clinic faculty. Completion of the course allows participants to take the Western Regional Examining Board Restorative Exam. PCC's course curriculum has been approved by the Oregon Board of Dentistry. Minimum Instructor qualifications:

  • 5 years experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), or Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), in the state of Oregon.
  • Hold a restorative functions certificate (RES).

Notes Regarding Academic Credentials
  • Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated Instructor Qualifications.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
