Description JOB PURPOSE:The Basketball Coach for Club Sports will provide sport supervision, mentorship, and competitive decision-making for the student members of the University of Lynchburg Club Basketball Team, which is a student-led organization. Weeks will vary depending on game schedule and traveling, and can range from 2-3 hours a week to 5-8 hours a week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Club Sports ProgramHold tryouts alongside the club’s officers to determine team rosterOversee and plan weekly practices for teamEducate players on the fundamentals of the sportEncourage ownership of the team by club members, as each club is a student-led organizationTeam ManagementWork with the officers of the club to organize the team and their responsibilitiesMeet with the Campus Recreation department often to discuss performance of the clubTransportHelp to transport team to games and tournaments that are away from University of Lynchburg campusServe as chaperone for trips to help guide students on away tripsPhysical TrainingProvide encouragement to club members to train outside of practice timesUnderstanding of athletic focus and practices needed to safely lead a team

EQUIPMENT USED:University administered vehicles, basketball equipment, fitness equipment (when in fitness centers)ORAL OR WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:Excellent written and communication skills required.WORKING CONDITIONS:The functions of this position are a mix of sitting and some significant amounts of walking or standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting or carrying may be required. As schedules for programs and events may occur after 5 p.m. and on weekends, schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

Must have a valid driver’s license and means of communication (i.e., phone, computer, email).

Qualifications MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:2-3 Years Coaching Basketball at a competitive levelExperience working with College Students MINIMUM EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, or related field.
