JOB SUMMARY

The Automation Technician will oversee and maintain the automated medication delivery system. Develop an automation optimization action plan to maximize patient safety, productivity and cost effectiveness.Formulate adequate stocking levels of medications and inventory control for the automation system. Support department operations in compliance to regulatory agency requirements, functions, and record keeping. Develop and implement training programs for department staff and automation users. National certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required. Additional responsibilities include those of a pharmacy technician. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Other duties may be assigned.

· Establishes adequate stock levels of medications in automated system through inventory control.

· Helps maintain Drug Master/Formulary in Connect-Rx.

· Monitors the Narcotic Vault for expired medications and adequate inventory levels.

· Responsible for the implementation and training of staff and automation users.

· Defines and maintains user-authorized access.

· Reconciles and verifies override medications. Updates override medication lists as needed.

· Reconciles manually admitted patients in system.

· Reconciles incorrect or failed AcuDose billing charges.

· Responsible for expired medication monitoring and removal procedures.

· Monitors controlled substance discrepancies, returning and wasting medication within the automated system.

· Acts a resource for AcuDose information to departmental and nursing staff.

· Maintains on-going quality assurance of the automated medication.

· Performs AcuDose operations (refills, returns, etc.) without discrepancies/errors.

· Willingly provides assistance to other pharmacy areas when asked to do so by Director or pharmacist on duty. Accepts and completes other assignments delegated by Pharmacy Management.

· Assists the Informatics Pharmacist to establish & implementAutomation troubleshooting and downtime procedures. Contact technician for system problems.

· Strong interpersonal, communications and problem-solving skills.

· High - level ability to problem solve daily pharmacy issues.

· Gives appropriate information to caller, or relays questions as appropriate to a pharmacist. Provides feedback regarding problems and complaints, and offers constructive suggestions.

· Demonstrates organizational skills to prioritize multiple projects.

· Uses chain of command for problem solving and conflict resolution.

· Understands general medical terminology, drug nomenclature, physician orders, and approved hospital abbreviations.

· Can perform basic math functions using metric equivalents.

· Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.

· Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.

· Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum of High School or GED required.

· Minimum of 2 years of experience.

· Registered Pharmacy Tech State of Florida required.

· Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data
