Special Education Teacher (Self-Contained Classroom)
Location: Romeoville, IL
Position: Special Education Teacher Structured Teaching and Learning Room (STLR) Program
Duration: ASAP - May 28, 2025
Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Education Teacher for a self-contained classroom position within the Structured Teaching and Learning Room (STLR) program in Romeoville, IL. This position is available immediately and will continue through the end of the school year. The STLR program is designed to provide intense instructional support for students with autism or other developmental delays, focusing on communication, social skills, positive behavior, and academic instruction.
Program Overview: The STLR program offers a structured, small-group learning environment that emphasizes:
- Intensive support in communication, social skills, and positive behavior.
- Academic instruction using an alternate or modified curriculum tailored to students' needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with autism or other developmental delays.
- Provide direct, individualized instruction in communication, social skills, and academic subjects using an alternate or modified curriculum.
- Create and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and effective learning.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies and IEP goals as needed.
- Collaborate with other educators, support staff, and parents to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and review of students' educational plans.
- Provide training and support to staff on strategies to assist students with autism and developmental delays.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with autism and developmental delays is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in lesson planning, classroom management, and individualized instruction.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
