Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Cable Splicer to install, remove, and relocate common telephone systems equipment for Fort Johnson. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, and modify cable systems.
  • Utilize engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems,
  • Prepare and install distribution equipment, terminate tip cables on main distribution frames, and install, maintain, and repair dry air compressors and continuous flow and static pressurization systems.
  • Ensure techniques, materials, and accomplishments are according to technical standards and specifications and engineered directives.
  • Locate, repair, and/or replace splice cases.
  • Perform pneumatic troubleshooting to locate faulty splice cases and pressure component assemblies, using resistance measurements and pressure gradients, and determine course of signal deterioration in voice and data circuits over cable by using test equipment.
  • Interpret compressor meter readings and adjust controls, and troubleshoot pneumatic and electrical malfunctions in cable air-dryer compressors.

Qualifications

3+ years experience in telecommunications infrastructure and installation. Must be BICSI Technician certified or able to obtain within six months of hire. Must be trained in OSHA Confined Space and Panduit certified. Experience with basic bucket truck operations, ladder safety, aerial and scissor lift safety, GPS, and cable location. Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing OSP cable systems to include O&M of copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling (aerial, buried, direct buried, and underground), protected terminals, grounding systems, manhole and conduit systems, connectors, and distribution frames as well as, terminating, splicing, locating, marking, testing, tagging, and cross-connecting cable pairs. Must be well versed in BICSI rules, regulations, and standards. Experience developing layout and design for outside plant infrastructure systems. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and industry standards and practices regarding the installation and maintenance of outside plant infrastructure. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
