Compensation:$21.04-$25.25Compensation Type:HourlyEmployment Type:RegularGrade:NE09Position SummaryUnder general supervision, coordinates, supervises and manages the daily operation of the CNM Chronicle. Coordinates, oversees, and/or performs news-gathering operations to ensure utilization of all news sources. Serves as primary point of contact for editorial issues. Oversees the coordination, supervision and completion of projects and/or events.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervises staff and/or projects.
  • Ensure compliance with CNM, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations as they pertain to student publications.
  • Provides guidance to editors in the acquisition of publication materials, recruits authors, negotiates contracts, oversees rights and permissions, approves revisions, and sets production schedules and priorities.
  • Supervise student employees which includes work allocation, training, enforcement of internal procedures, and problem resolution;
  • Assists in planning the annual budget allocated to the CNM Chronical.
  • Assists with establishing and implementing long- and short-range department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
  • Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
  • Read, evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication.
  • Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
  • Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Allocate print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles.
  • Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.
  • Review and approve proofs submitted by composing room prior to publication production.
  • Oversee publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements.
  • Confer with management and editorial staff members regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories.
  • Assist reporters with news articles.
  • Assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage.
  • Make manuscript acceptance or revision recommendations to the publisher.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, or at least preferred; three (3) years of related experience.
