About The Position
ID: 49724636 Shift: M-F days with rotating call nights and weekends Description: ORTHO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED:In need of an experienced Surgical Tech to scrub for a multitude of specialties including: general; ortho; ophthalmology; urology; ENT; endoscopy, C-section.Able to be team focused in busy surgery department. Must have minimum of 2 years of Surgical Tech experience.JOB SUMMARY1. Job Summary: Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Maintain the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure, and to be constantly vigilant in the maintenance of the sterile field. Responsible for procedures related to cleaning, sterilizing, and assemble of equipment, supplies and instruments for use in medical and surgical interventions.2. Education: High school graduate or equivalent with courses in physical and natural sciences and mathematics preferred. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or previous surgical scrub experience.3. Credentials: BLS; Surgical Technologist Certification preferred4. Compliance: The employee will comply with the Compliance Policy, all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position. The employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law or the standards of conduct to his or her immediate supervisor, Compliance Officer or the Chief Executive Office.5. Job Knowledge and Skills: Two yearsexperience in surgical scrub experience required.Possess good communication skills and contribute to completing the required work of the team.Possess good decision-making skills, organizational skills, and able to adapt to change and flexibility, detail oriented.6. Employment Variables: Department hours of operation as well as requirements for working scheduled On-Call . ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Responsibility Statement: Prepares environment for surgical case. Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative areas according to need. Select and prepare supplies and instruments for the sterile field. Coordinate room preparation with circulator. Assures all equipment is present and functioning prior to use. Demonstrates competence in cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Restocks rooms, storeroom, specialty carts and other areas as needed.2. Responsibility Statement: Provides assistance to surgeon during surgical procedures.a. Passes correct instrumentation, supplies, and suture as needed by the physician.b. Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.c. Observes and reports contamination and/or breaks in aseptic technique. Initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur. d. Counts all sharps, sponges, instruments and other items as dictated by hospital policy.e. Accurately records, handles, and labels specimens and cultures.3. Responsibility Statement: Provides for preparation of sterile instruments and equipment.a. Sterilizes instruments, equipment, surgical linens and supplies such as surgical packs, treatment trays, etc., according to established procedures.b. Assembles packs of supplies, instruments, dressing and treatment trays, etc., according to established procedures.c. Labels, seals, and maintains control records of items possessed.d. Disassembles, inspects, performs minor maintenance or reconditioning, recommends repair, cleans and reassembles surgical instruments, needles, linen, and electrical or mechanical equipment.e. Performs work related duties such as general housekeeping, minor maintenance of area equipment and surveillance of area supply stock levels.4. Responsibility Statement: Prepares and maintains documentation.a. Assists in updating preference cards and communicates channels to appropriate personnel.b. Demonstrates knowledge of specialty area assignment. Maintains adequate inventory levels. c. Maintains and modifies tray instrument lists and logs as needed.d. Maintains records of instruments or supplies sent for repair or loaned to other institutions or physicians.e. Participates in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment and instruments.f. Provides accurate documentation on charges and inventory items in electronic documentation system.5. Responsibility Statement: Provides a safe environment for patient, self, and team.a. Demonstrates infection control measures and universal precautions.b. Demonstrates an awareness of safety principles and utilizes proper body mechanics.6. Responsibility Statement: Provides for educational and professional growth.a. Participates in unit meetings and attends required hospital and departmental in-services.b. Demonstrates professionalism and interest in work by maintaining acceptable work habits.c. Assumes responsibility for personal and job related growth.7. Responsibility Statement: Engages in caring and professional communication. Pursuit of quality and effective communication. 1. Must complete all ongoing house-wide and/or departmental communication training.2. Must practice and develop caring communication as presented in training. 3. Must utilize these skills consistently with all internal and external customers (i.e. patients, medical staff, visitors, and staff).
