The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek Radiation Oncologists (Thoracic, GI, and GU) to join the Department of Radiation Oncology. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Physician provides licensed medical care including diagnosis, treatment (inclusive of surgery or pre/post-surgical care where appropriate), case management and clinical research. The Physician manages complex and sometimes unpredictable situations. The Physician must be competent in technical, clinical and surgical skills (where appropriate), cognitive and interpersonal skills required to serve those patients receiving the above mentioned services. The Physician is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and physician’s standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols), and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the James Cancer Hospital and James Outpatient Care, provides advanced personalized radiation oncology care to cancer patients, specific to their individual tumor and clinical situation. The department is an integral part of Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). We provide leading-edge radiation therapy care in an environment of subspecialty radiation oncology expertise, education and translational research.

The signature mission of Radiation Oncology at the James Cancer Hospital is to provide state-of-the-art personalized care for our cancer patients by capitalizing upon the unique expertise of our treatment team, implementing cutting-edge technologies geared to eradicate cancer, and conducting cutting-edge clinical, translational, and basic science research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Physician specializing in Radiation Oncology to serve as a member of the Department of Radiation Oncology; directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs; performs Radiation Therapy procedures; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families; directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate & graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty of Radiation Oncology; ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities

Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), board certified or board eligible in specialization required. Completion of an accredited residency and fellowship {if applicable} training program required; Current or interim permit to practice medicine from the State of Ohio Medical Board required; Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Radiation Oncology required; active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required; Sub-specialty board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Radiation Oncology preferred.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
