The University of Miami/UHealth System and the Department of Radiology have an exciting opportunity for a Full Time MRI Technologist 3 to work at Applebaum MRI Center in Miami. The incumbent performs complex procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas, procedures and equipment. Moreover, the MRI Technologist 3 performs diagnostic imaging examinations to facilitate the ability of physicians, radiologic technologists, and supervisors to find abnormalities and make a proper diagnosis.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Supervises scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
2. Performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a radiologist.
3. Assists with the education and training of new physicians. Provides assistance with orientation and training of new MRI technologists. Demonstrates Ultrasound equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
4. Participates in developing new protocols, Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility, research initiatives and development of research protocols.
5. Monitors charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
6. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies Leader of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
7. Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
8. Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high quality standards. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
9. Assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
10. Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
11. Assists radiologists with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
12. Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
13. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program

Certification and Licensing:

Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer

ARRT registered with ARRT certification in primary modality

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
