With a 4-year graduation rate ranked #1 in New Jersey and #9 among U.S. public institutions, TCNJ is a model for public higher education. The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services is a large operational service organization that provides a broad array of services to the campus community through the following offices: Access Control Services, Automotive Services, Building Services, Energy & Central Utilities, Facilities Operations, Grounds & Landscape Maintenance Services, Mailing & Receiving Services, Occupational Safety and Environmental Services and Risk Management Services.Under the direction of the Supervisor of the Plumbing Shop, this position performs varied types of plumbing work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and steam fitting fixtures, fittings, and systems; does related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledgeable of the methods and problems involved in inspecting, repairing, installing and maintaining water, drainage, waste and gas lines, radiators, toilets, wash basins, urinals, showers, bath tubs, and other types of plumbing and steam fitting equipment and/or systems.  Must possess excellent organizational, analytical, verbal and written communications skills. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Must have the ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and assignments. Must have the ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, and specifications.  Ability to inspect, install, repair and/or maintain all types of plumbing and steam fitting equipment and/or systems, including fittings, fixtures, appliances and machinery under varying circumstances.  Ability to analyze plumbing and steam fitting work, organize assigned work, and develop effective work methods to complete assigned work; ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and assignments; and, ability to maintain simple records of materials used, work completed and time spent.  Ability to efficiently and safely make plumbing and steam fitting repairs and to do associated plumbing and steam fitting work using standard mechanical tools and equipment, as well as other specialized tools and machinery, including, but not limited to pipe cutters, caps and dies, pipe threaders, soldering tools, varied types of wrenches, saws, gauges, and valves. Required:  High School Diploma. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in work involving the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and steamfitting fixtures, fittings, applicances, machinery, and plumbing systems and related equipment. Possession of a valid driver's license in good standing issued by the state of residence is required. Must be able to walk distances in all weather conditions, navigate stairs, climb ladders, utilize scaffolding, platforms, or powered lifts, kneel, negotiate tight spaces, and work in high spaces. Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions, year round.  Must be capable of lifting tools, materials and equipment commensurate within the functions of this position (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to endure limited lighted situations with extreme temperatures (e. g. non air-conditioned buildings).  Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.  Must be capable of entering and working in manholes other confined spaces. Works in non-air-conditioned spaces such as bathrooms, mechanical rooms, rooms, and buildings in general. Exposure to inclement weather, such as in rain and snow, as well as both cold and hot weather when working outside or when traveling from building to building. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy, fact paced environment. Must work in buildings that may not have elevators to move materials in and out of the facility, and must rely on stairs to navigate through building. Works in confined spaces such as manholes, boilers, etc. Preferred:Minimum of three (3) years of comprehensive plumbing and steamfitting work within an institutional setting (e. g. higher education, school district, hospital).  Successful completion of a vocational training or apprenticeship program. Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in order to perform the essential functions of the position.
