Position OverviewThe FMS Department invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit online applications to the lecturer pool to be considered for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions. Positions vary and are dependent upon the need for instructors, if any, for courses being offered each semester. These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional.

Application materials will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching undergraduate courses consistent with program instructional needs. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Job DescriptionTeach a specified number of either undergraduate or graduate courses per semester. Courses may be undergraduate or graduate level and may be taught face-to-face, hybrid or online.

Regular Lecturer Duties

100% - Regular Lecturer Duties:

Teach a specified number of undergraduate courses per semester.40%-Prepare and present lectures for one or more undergraduate courses in film and media studies as described in the approved course syllabi.40%-Hold office hours, design and supervise discussion sections, laboratories, assignments and projects, and exams as appropriate to the course.20%-Grade student discussion sections, laboratories, assignments and projects, and exams and/or supervise graders and teaching assistants. Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.
Online Lecturer Duties

100% - Online Lecturer Duties:

Teach a specified number of undergraduate courses per semester.Prepare for and attend all class meetings. Provide timely feedback and instructor/student interaction in asynchronous online course format with occasions for online office hours and/or Q&A sessions. Regular weekly interaction is expected in online courses.Provide instruction for course(s). Classes are generally in an 8-week or mini-semester format. Class meetings will generally be asynchronous, but instructional expectations match those of the face-to-face experience.Administer assignments, tests, evaluate student work, provide timely feedback to students, and assign grades.Be available for students involved in classes taught. “Office hours” may include a set time where students can contact the instructor, but must also include expectations for timely responses to student inquiries outside of a set contact time.Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.Required QualificationsEvaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:Earned Master's degree in film and/or media studies or a closely related discipline. For equivalency to the MA: Bachelor's degree in film or media studies or a closely related field AND two (2) or more years of distinguished teaching experience at the post- secondary level. Distinguished is defined as a lengthy and notable or prominent record of mastery in teaching at an accredited institution, as defined by peer evaluation, course evaluation, and/or supervisor evaluation.Experience in teaching film/media courses at the college or university level, or comparable professional experience. For instructors in film and media, a distinguished record of production and/or performance in a medium appropriate to the target subject is required. Distinguished is defined as a lengthy and notable or prominent record of artistic and/or academic work in nationally or internationally recognized venues.Native or near native proficiency in English.Preferred QualificationsEarned doctorate in film and/or media studies or a closely related discipline.Demonstrated competence in teaching film and media theory, history, and/or production.Additional Candidate InstructionsA complete application will include:A letter of application indicating what position you are applying for in the Cover Letter.A vitae detailing specific subject areas the applicant is qualified to teach and/or develop.The names and contact information (including email) for three professional references.Review of applications is ongoing and hires will be made as positions become available throughout the academic year.
