Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities in collaboration with the student's IEP team, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

  2. Virtual Instruction: Provide virtual instruction in core academic subjects, adaptive skills, and social skills, using evidence-based teaching strategies and assistive technology tools.

  3. Differentiated Instruction: Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs of students with disabilities, including those with autism, learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, and other exceptionalities.

  4. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly to ensure meaningful progress toward goals.

  5. Family Communication: Regularly communicate with students and families to provide updates on progress, share resources, and address concerns related to virtual learning and special education services.

  6. Skill Development: Provide direct instruction, modeling, and support to students in developing self-advocacy skills, executive functioning skills, and independent learning strategies.

  7. Professional Development: Participate in virtual IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development activities to support continuous improvement and compliance with special education regulations.

  8. Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student data, including IEP documentation, progress reports, attendance, and behavior logs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in special education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid teaching certification in special education or eligibility for certification in Illinois.
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities, preferably in a virtual or remote learning environment.
  • Familiarity with virtual learning platforms, instructional technology tools, and assistive technology devices commonly used to support students with disabilities.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices in serving students with diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Clearances and background checks required by school districts or employers.
