Description

Reporting to the Director of Career Services, the Internship Career Coach works within the Center for Student Success and helps facilitate internships and career development for Husson Students. Working as an integral staff member for Career Services, the Coach utilizes a collaborative model to develop partnerships with faculty, employers and students to support successful internship relationships in the areas of Health Sciences, Pre-Med, Healthcare Administration/Public Health, Psychology, and Integrated Technology/Extended Reality.

Examples of Duties

Provide career education/advising to help students explore and achieve their career goals, including major/career exploration and preparing and competing for internships.Help students identify their interests, skills, values and personalities, and understand how these factors relate to academic/career satisfaction.Build on existing and develop relationships with employers to assist them in creating and promoting internships.Collaborate with academic departments to develop and implement professional development and to support student success activities/workshops.Assist students in identifying and finding suitable internship opportunities.Guide students through the entire application process to help them be most successful in attaining internships.Understand and stay current with labor market trends as to which career pathways are the strongest economically, especially in Maine.Collaborate with academic and student affairs departments to effectively market internship opportunities.Maintain and enhance relationships with companies and other organizations to develop and modify potential internships, and promote external relations with the organization relating to career services.Conduct workshops, seminars, and other presentations to student, faculty, employer, and alumni groups regarding career opportunities within Maine.Collaborate with faculty and employers to ensure internships meet the required academic standards for approval and evaluate outcomes of internships to determine successes and areas for improvement for both students and employers.Utilize the NACE Career Competencies as a basis for evaluating the success of programs in helping students achieve their goals.Work with data and maintain notes and records appropriate to Career Services.Typical Qualifications

The successful applicant will meet requirements of at least the required level:

Required level

The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human relations, psychology, human resources, or another related field, and at least one year experience working with college age students. The candidate should be familiar with best practices in career services and the NACE career competencies.

Preferred level

Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in career development, academic advising, or teaching in a Higher Educational context; a demonstrated history of establishing positive relationships with students and supporting them in a university setting; Master’s Degree in career development, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
