Are you adept at turning complex technical information into compelling proposals? KBR is seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our Defense Systems Engineering, Naval Solutions Division in Lexington Park, Maryland. In this pivotal role, you will specialize in crafting, refining, and perfecting proposals, manuals, and technical documentation crucial to the operation and maintenance of sophisticated machinery and equipment. Your mastery will ensure our proposals meet exacting standards for clarity, comprehensiveness, and technical precision, which are pivotal in securing projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and Write Proposals: Research, write, and edit proposals in response to DoD solicitations and requests for proposals (RFPs), ensuring compliance with all requirements and deadlines.
  • Create Technical Documentation: Produce clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation, including manuals, reports, specifications, and procedures related to defense systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs): Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other SMEs to gather technical information and translate it into comprehensive, understandable documents and proposals.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all documentation and proposals adhere to DoD regulations, standards, and formatting requirements, including security and classification guidelines.
  • Review and Edit: Review and edit technical content for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and consistency, ensuring documentation meets high-quality standards and effectively communicates complex information.
  • Manage Documentation Lifecycle: Track and manage the lifecycle of technical documents and proposals, including version control, updates, and revisions as needed.
  • Addition duties as needed to support customer requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Clearance & Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain & maintain a DOD Secret clearance.

Education & Experience:

  • If you have a BS/BA in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, Business Development, or a related field, 1-2 years of experience are required.
  • If you have an associate degree, 6+ yearsof experience in Technical Writing, Technical Editing, Proposal Writing, or a similar role are required.
  • If you have aHigh School Diploma, 9+ yearsof experience in Technical Writing, Technical Editing, Proposal Writing, or a similar role are required.

Skills & Abilities: This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment within the DoD contracting space.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working as a technical writer or proposal writer in the defense industry, preferably with direct involvement in DoD contracts and proposals.
  • Experience with desktop publishing tools and graphics software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator) for creating visually appealing proposals and technical documentation.​
