Position Overview: The School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist will provide comprehensive speech and language services to students within the district. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, and communication disorders, as well as collaborating with teachers, parents, and other school professionals to support each student's educational and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough evaluations of students speech and language abilities, including standardized tests, observations, and interviews. Diagnose speech and language disorders and determine eligibility for services.

  • Individualized Treatment: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and treatment plans based on assessment results. Provide direct therapy services to students with communication disorders.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and parents to support students' educational goals. Offer guidance on strategies to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom environment.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, therapy sessions, and assessment results. Prepare reports for IEP meetings and communicate findings to parents and school personnel.

  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in speech-language pathology and special education. Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

  • Advocacy: Advocate for students needs and ensure they receive appropriate accommodations and modifications to support their learning and communication development.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • Licensure: Valid Illinois state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

  • Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred, or eligibility to obtain.

  • Experience: Prior experience working in a school setting preferred, but not required. Experience with IEP development and implementation is a plus.

  • Skills: Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals and families.

  • Personal Qualities: Empathy, patience, and a passion for helping students succeed. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
