The Level I Trauma Emergency Department at Banner Desert & Cardon Children’s Medical Center is focused on fulfilling Banner’s mission to make a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care. As vital members of the multi-professional care team, we strive to advance the art and science of patient care, quality and safety. With over 100 beds our ED sees approximately 150,000 patients annually and care for both adult and pediatric patient populations. As Emergency Department Paramedic, you will have qualifications necessary to perform the responsibilities of this opportunity in a fast-paced environment. You will work with our professional care givers to provide great customer service to the East Valley. This is an opportunity to use your experience and skills in a well diverse patient population. If you are looking to work with all patients and a wide range of patient acuity levels, this is the position for you. This role is for a Full-Time Night shift opening. The hours will be from 6pm-6:30am for 3 shifts per week, which will include weekends and holiday rotations. You will have the opportunity to utilize our self-scheduling tool as well as enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential as well as an 18% Night Shift differential where applicable.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for patient care in the emergency department as assigned under the medical direction of the base hospital EMS Medical Director. This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional paramedic practice. This position is accountable for the quality of patient services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.



CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Evaluates acuity level of patients and insures appropriate matching of patients care needs to unit and hospital resources. Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their specific needs.

2. Performs basic patient care appropriately within scope of training: positioning, transportation, phlebotomy, ECGs, maintenance of spinal precautions. Administers or monitors medications when indicated and as ordered by a physician. Such medications are limited to those approved for administration and/or monitoring by a paramedic in the State of practice. Assists patient in transfer using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques. Starts peripheral intravenous lines, including external jugular lines, initiates infusion, and maintains and adjusts fluid administration per physician order.

3. Performs cardio-vascular monitoring and management within scope of training.

4. Performs airway management within scope of training and within state guidelines to include oxygen administration, tracheal suctioning, assisting with ventilation, positioning, end-tidal CO2 and pulse-ox monitoring.

5. Actively participates in the resuscitation of critical patients as assigned. Observes and monitors patients through the diagnostic phase of treatment.
