Job Description: Special Education Teacher

Location: Nixa, Missouri

Position Type: Full-Time

Overview: Nixa School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they achieve academic success and personal growth. This role requires collaboration with other educators, parents, and support staff to create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in various settings, including inclusive classrooms and resource rooms.
  • Adapt curriculum and teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and disabilities.
  • Assess students' progress and adjust instruction based on data and student performance.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to support student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and IEP goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on student progress, IEPs, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Special Education (K-12).
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding special education.
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.
  • Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities is preferred.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Missouri Initial Professional Certificate (IPC) or Continuous Professional Certificate (CPC) in Special Education.
  • Certification in Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Disabilities (K-12) or Severe Developmental Disabilities (K-12).
  • Any additional certifications as required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Familiarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports.
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other specialized instructional strategies.
