POSITION SUMMARY: TheClinical Documentation Supervisor is responsible for facilitatingimprovement in the overall quality and completeness of the medicalrecord documentation. The CDI supervisor will provide support andexpertise through comprehensive assessment and review of inpatientmedical records. The CDI Supervisor will facilitate accurate DRGassignment and obtain appropriate documentation through extensiveinteraction with physicians, ancillary healthcare providers, andhealth information management coding staff to ensure thatreimbursement (reflecting the proper quality of care andappropriate reimbursement) is received for the level of servicesrendered to the patients. Offers guidance and support to RNClinical Documentation Specialists and assists the Director asneeded. Coordinates meetings between CDI specialists andcoders. Provides medical director/physician advisor appropriatedata reports for MD outreach due to lack of query response. This isa fulltime FTE of 40 hours a week. FTE breakdown will consist of60% concurrent assignment/chart review and 40% administrative time.
Requirements
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: Graduate from a Registered Nurseprogram; current New Mexico RN license required
EDUCATION: graduatefrom a registered nurse program; BSN preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:Current New Mexico RN license
SKILLS:
- Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheetutilization
- Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills
- Proficient in computeruse (desktop and/or laptop)
- Demonstrates basicknowledge regarding HIM coding standards
- Analytic skills necessary to accurately assess patientmedical records
- Excellent interpersonal skillsand ability to work on a team
- Ability to beflexible and adjust to workload/assignment changes andinterruptions
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of5 years recent experience in healthcare required. Prior experiencein clinical documentation improvement, utilizationreview/management, discharge planning, quality management, casemanagement or coding preferred
