Associate Director of Academic Advising and Student Success

Job Description Summary: Within the College of Education, Health, and Society, the Associate Director of Academic Advising and Student Success will train and mentor new advisors, including working with the Assistant Dean to develop and implement training for faculty advisors across EHS; coordinate retention efforts for the division; and academically advise an assigned caseload of students within EHS.
Job Description
The Associate Director of Academic Advising and Student Success trains and mentors full time professional staff advisors and faculty advisors across EHS; provides significant leadership to advising staff to respond to complex inquiries and guidance regarding academic policies, university procedures, and best practices; frequently assists the Assistant Dean and Director of EHS Success Center with department leadership tasks; responds to timely and sensitive inquiries from faculty, parents, and students; coordinates departmental liaison relationship with assigned EHS department(s); oversees retention outreach and serves on university committee(s) to facilitate retention initiatives; manages large-scale communication to EHS students in support of retention; leads advisors in retention efforts to holistically support students identified as needing additional outreach; leads division-wide processes including graduation clearance review and communication and academic petitions; academically advises assigned EHS students including but not limited to interpreting campus policies and procedures, co-creating degree completion plans and articulating progress, setting and defining goals; identifying course equivalencies at domestic and international institutions; exploring academic programs and careers, referring to appropriate campus resources, and supporting student development and engagement; supports students seeking admission to EHS majors and minors; assists in recruiting and orienting new and prospective first year and transfer students through individual advising appointments, small group information sessions, and large-scale divisional events; provides ongoing assessment and advising; other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of EHS Success Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree; five years of full-time professional advising or related experience at the college/university level, including exhibited growth in roles.
Consideration may be given to candidates with significant advising and professional experience in an undergraduate program in the area of education, health, or society; 7 years of professional experience in an undergraduate advising office; proven understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations; excellent written and oral communication; organization, technological and collaborative skills; familiarity with internet and technological applications, e.g. Student Success Collaborative (Navigate), transferology.com, Banner, Workday; ability to work effectively and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders in different contexts, including faculty, staff, and students.
