Lead Engineer (Offshore Emergency Response & Oil Spill Cleanup) Job Summary
The Lead Engineer for Offshore Emergency Response and Oil Spill Cleanup is responsible for overseeing and directing engineering efforts related to emergency response and environmental protection activities in marine settings. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced professional capable of leading a team in designing, developing, and maintaining specialized equipment and systems for oil spill containment and recovery. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of offshore emergency response operations.

Lead Engineer (Offshore Emergency Response & Oil Spill Cleanup) Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Supervision:
    • Lead and supervise engineering and drafting departments, ensuring high-quality output and adherence to project timelines.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and drafters using AUTOCAD drafting systems.
  • Engineering Design and Development:
    • Oversee the engineering and development of new equipment and systems for emergency response and oil spill cleanup.
    • Ensure proper maintenance procedures, cost estimation, and modification of existing equipment.
    • Manage configuration control processes to maintain system integrity and reliability.
  • Technical Documentation and Review:
    • Develop and review engineering documents, including 3D models, simulations, calculations, technical manuals, and drawings.
    • Generate and manage subsequent planning documents to support engineering projects.
  • Field Operations and Practical Engineering:
    • Engage in “hands-on” practical engineering in the field, including marine rigging and vessel operations.
    • Ensure safe and effective handling and transfer of volatile products, understanding their physical and chemical properties.
  • Pollution Control and Environmental Protection:
    • Apply knowledge and experience in hazardous materials control and handling to prevent and mitigate pollution.
    • Utilize expertise in the behavior of oil on water to design and implement oil containment and recovery strategies under various environmental conditions.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in salvage hydraulics, wire rope, synthetic line, and pumping systems relevant to oil spill response operations.

Lead Engineer (Offshore Emergency Response & Oil Spill Cleanup) Position Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for DoD personal security clearance at the ‘SECRET’ level.
  • Education:
    • Undergraduate degree or higher in Civil or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
    • Professional Engineer license in the State of Virginia, or transferable.
  • Experience:
    • 15 years of experience as a practicing engineer.
    • 12 years of experience in marine-related engineering.
    •  Proven ability to supervise engineering and drafting teams equipped with AUTOCAD systems.
    • Experience in the engineering and development of new equipment, including maintenance procedures, cost estimating, and configuration management.
    • Proficient in developing and reviewing engineering documents and conveying technical details clearly.
    • Practical experience with salvage hydraulics, wire rope, synthetic line, and pumping systems.
    • Preferred experience in pollution control operations and/or engineering.
    • Practical engineering experience in the field, particularly with marine rigging and vessel operations.
    • Thorough understanding of oil properties and safe handling procedures.
    •  In-depth knowledge of hazardous materials control and oil behavior on water, including containment and recovery techniques.
