More information about the College of Science can be found here: https://www.sjsu.edu/science/ Brief Description of DutiesWe invite applications for a pool of part-time lecturers, should an opening arise, to teach our undergraduate courses including Sci 2/Success in Science, Sci 157SL/CommunityAction/Community Service, and UNVS 101/Leadership and Career Accelerator . The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the College. The pool will remain in place for three calendar years; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach small to large lecture courses as well as seminars and activity sections. Excellence in teaching is expected.Positions start at the beginning of a semester and appointments may be renewed based on department need, funding, and performance.The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.All Faculty should be organizing their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes. You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date.All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid). Required QualificationsPh.D. in Science or related fields or equivalent is strongly recommended.MS degree with teaching experience would be considered for teaching activity sections.Knowledge of the subject matter of the specific course.Good oral and written communication skills, commitment to student learning and team performance are required.Ability to evaluate adult learners and evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experiences.
