Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of StudentsWinthrop University, a public university in Rock Hill, South Carolina, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its associate vice president for student affairs/dean of students. Winthrop is a four-year, top-ranked, mid-sized public regional comprehensive university thatprovides personalized and challenging undergraduate, graduate, and professional education programs of national caliber in a variety of on-campus and onlineprogramsand modalities.Their historic and scenic campus is located inRock Hill, SC, just 20 minutes south of Charlotte, NC.Reporting to the vice president for student affairs, the associate vice president/dean of students (AVP/DOS) provides visionary, administrative, and programmatic oversight to the community life units within the student affairs division. The AVP/DOS is second in command and is a member of the student affairs executive team. They directly supervise the assistant dean /director ofresidence life, assistant dean of students (care), director of student conduct, the director of the office of accessibility, and an administrative assistant. The AVP/DOS manages a budget of over $3M.QualificationsRequirements include a master's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, or a related field, seven years of progressive leadership experience in higher education or student affairs, and proven ability to manage multiple departments/services, including residence life and housing. Demonstrated commitment to student success and retention, with hands-on experience managing student conduct and Title IX compliance, supporting students of concern, and navigating challenges that may impede academic progress. Experience managing ADA/disability regulations, threat assessment protocols, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with Maxient or a similar case management system. Budgeting experience in a similarly complex organizational structure. Preferred qualifications include ten years of experience in higher education, proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based software, and experience advising a student government or a similar group.Application and NominationWinthrop University has selected Spelman Johnson, a leading executive search firm, to assist with leading this search.
