About The Position
Job Title: MRI TechnologistJob Specialty: MRIJob Duration: 13 weeksShift: Mids, Monday-Thursday, 1pm-10:30pmGuaranteed Hours: 40 hours per weekExperience: Hospital experience preferred or requiredLicense: ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRICertifications: BLSMust-Have: Siemens & GE experience preferred, Philips iSite PACS knowledgeJob Description:- Perform MRI procedures according to departmental protocols and standards.- Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment proficiently, including scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment.- Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient, consulting with a Radiologist if necessary.- Identify and assist patients using two patient identifiers while offering brief explanations of procedures.- Prepare patients for procedures with thorough explanations and document on appropriate worksheets.- Interview patients to obtain complete medical histories, reviewing electronic medical records for pertinent clinical data.- Record medical histories on requisitions and correlate other test results with exams being performed.- Assume responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results.- Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols, recording type and amount upon request.- Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if needed.- Recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional, reconstructed images, and measurements as required.- Perform basic patient care functions and inform appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in a patient's condition.- Initiate life support measures for patients when necessary and assist in code blue procedures during medical emergencies.- Assist Physicians/PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile techniques.- Ensure compliance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies.- Obtain medication or contrast material for administration by a licensed practitioner when directed.- Practice radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members, following standards.- Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer.- Maintain knowledge and skills for safe work in environments with significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attend all in-service classes, and complete required safety modules.- Operate radiology computer system, entering orders and charging procedures/supplies, and document contrast administration.- Maintain work area in an orderly fashion, keeping it stocked and clean.- Assist other medical personnel during exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan.- Maintain knowledge of MRI safety requirements for staff and patients around magnetic fields.This position requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting are part of daily operations, with occasional stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. Adherence to radiation safety guidelines is essential. Education: Graduate of an accredited two-year approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program.
