This position will serve as a Researcher for CCIC at the shared Campus Chemical Instrument Center (CCIC) Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics (MSP) facility at The Ohio State University (OSU). The MSP facility houses state of the art instrumentation including; an Orbitrap Eclipse, an Orbitrap Fusion, an Exploris 480, two QExactive plus instruments, a timsTOF Pro and a 15T FT-ICR MS.
Under the realm of the center’s leadership and direction, the individual in this research role will independently lead their assigned research initiatives. The Researcher will coordinate and conduct scientific research involving various projects in the areas of mass spectrometry-based proteomics. The individual will participate in i) initial project planning and experimental design with investigators from Ohio State University and outside institutions, ii) develop sample preparation and MS/MS analytical protocols, iii) qualitative and statistical analysis of data, iv) preparing reports using data science notebooks, MS Word, MS PowerPoint etc.
The Researcher will train, advises, and actively assist research efforts of CCIC MSP researchers/users, including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, on the use of mass spectrometers, data processing, and analysis of proteomics MS data; The Researcher will initiate and lead projects and collaborations with internal users and external users from both academia and industry that take advantage of CCIC MSP resources; participate as an instructor in practical MS and proteomics workshops; publish research in peer-reviewed journals; present research and showcase CCIC mass spectrometry at conferences (talks or posters); participate in grant writing for the addition, upgrade and replacement of CCIC mass spectrometry hardware; communicate with and promote MS capabilities to OSU and national CCIC MS users by email, up-to-date website information, journals and social media; and actively participate in CCIC seminars/symposia.
The Researcher will assist with mass spectrometer maintenance, scheduling, and monthly billing with other CCIC MSP staff; collaboratively work with CCIC MSP research scientists to achieve the research missions of CCIC MSP; actively promote and ensure a safe, clean, and secure facility; participate as an early responder during any emergency situations in the MSP facility; perform other duties as assigned by CCIC MSP director or associate director/staff leaders.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or related area with 5-6 years demonstrated ability as a productive researcher (i.e., the incumbent will typically have (co-) first authorship of publications of considerable interest and value to the field, presentations of research at conferences, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, techniques and their implementations which are of material significance in addressing important problems). Excellent computer skills and excellent communication skills to effectively interact with faculty and other researchers in a professional manner.
Desired qualifications:
Prior experience in practical mass spectrometry and/or proteomics or data analysis. Experience with protein expression/purification or BSL2 sample handling.

Additional Information:This position's target hiring pay range is $64,300 to $83,600. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the candidate's relevant work experience and qualifications, and the unit's available budget, which is the primary determining factor. This is a senior-level position that works on-site Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
