Advertised Position Title:Librarian, AcquisitionsJob Description:Specific Responsibilities and Activities:
- Responsible for the effective operation of purchasing books, audiovisual materials, eBooks, streaming video, and supplies for the Toledo and Findlay campus libraries.
- Assist with other library operations as needed, such as:
- Providing reference service
- Circulation desk coverage
- General or subject-specific information literacy instruction
- Collection development and maintenance in assigned academic subjects
- Marketing and promoting library services, resources and programs
- Liaison with assigned academic departments for collection deployment purposes, and providing other library related services as needed.
- Collect and maintain statistical data on resources and usage for IPEDS requirements and in-house analysis.
- Supervise student workers in daily tasks
- Keep current on new developments related to areas of responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated mastery of library science and information management principles through experience, publications or teaching.
- Ability to correctly assess the information needs of library users.
- Knowledge and experience with automated library systems, particularly using Innovative Interfaces, Inc. systems.
- Thorough knowledge of online resources, database searching, and information literacy.
- Experience in library instruction to various levels of patron needs, particularly in an academic library environment.
- Skills in using and maintaining essential library equipment, such as computers, printers, photocopiers, scanners, software, and audiovisual equipment.
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing technological environment.
- Ability to push a loaded book cart from one end of the library to the other.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, sit, reach, kneel to access materials from the library shelves.
- Excellent analytical, evaluative, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated competence in budget management, analysis, and development.
- Excellent reference skills and strong sense of intellectual curiosity.
- Strong attention to detail, flexible and is able to work independently.
- Must be able to function in a stressful environment, have organizational awareness and must be able to multi-task.
- Demonstrated commitment to strong customer service principles.
- Respectful and courteous with coworkers and library patrons.
- Ability to identify when an issue should be directed to administration.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree, preferably in library science.
- One-year professional experience in an academic library.
- One-year experience with integrated, automated library software system.
