Position Summary

Tutors play a key role in enhancing students’ academic performance by offering tailored support and guidance. They work closely with students to identify learning challenges, reinforce subject knowledge, and develop effective study strategies. By creating a positive and engaging learning environment, tutors help students build confidence, master key concepts, and achieve their educational goals.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Analyze student needs and determine manageable concepts that align with the student’s learning styleAnswer student questions and clarify areas of concernReview classroom or curricula topics and assignmentsAssist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasksDemonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects Provide students positive and constructive feedbackIdentify student’s academic challenges and recommend additional resources or supportPerform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor Required Qualifications

High school diplomaProficiency in the subject(s) area being tutored, demonstrated through academic achievement, certifications, or practical experienceStrong communication skills both written and verbal to explain concepts clearlyCommitment to the mission of the community college’Commitment to assisting and motivating students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning styles

COURSE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:NAE: Familiarity with clinicalsBIO: Familiarity with assisting students in cadaver labECE: Familiarity with assisting students in observationsWRITING: Familiarity with APA, MLA, and Chicago StyleMATH: Familiarity with TI-83, TI-84, or TI-nspire calculator

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree or higherPrior tutoring experienceFamiliar with and able to help with clinicals, if applicable to the content area
