North Carolina Wesleyan University invites applications for a 9-month appointment as a tenured/tenure-track professor (rank open) of Public Health beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, teaching a variety of foundational public health classes at the graduate and undergraduate level; advising and mentoring students; promoting program growth and academic quality; supervising student interns, and serving on internal committees. While the area of specialization is open, we seek candidates with strong grounding in health equity and community health. Experience with public health nutrition, health care administration, and/or public health programming and evaluation would be a significant plus.   

 

All North Carolina Wesleyan faculty are expected to engage students using pedagogically sound traditional and innovative instructional strategies. Public Health courses are delivered in both face-to-face and asynchronous online formats. A regular load at North Carolina Wesleyan University is 12 hours per semester, which may vary based on the distribution of teaching load across the graduate and undergraduate programs.

 

North Carolina Wesleyan University is a liberal arts university, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university is located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and serves approximately 1,500 students, including adult and professional students in the evening and online. The Wesleyan community celebrates the rich diversity of its student body. In the traditional day program, 43% are students of color, and 20% are international students.

Rocky Mount is in the eastern coastal plain region of the state, convenient to the Raleigh-Durham area and beaches, including the Outer Banks. Washington, DC, and the mountains of North Carolina are also within easy driving distance.

Qualifications: An earned doctoral degree in Public Health, or closely related field, is required. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have obtained a doctorate degree by August 2025. Previous college or university-level teaching experience, particularly in the areas of public health policy, public health nutrition, epidemiology, and/or program planning, implementation, and evaluation is strongly preferred. Evidence of scholarly activities such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations is highly desirable.
