Job Title: Special Education Teacher - Elementary Life Skills

Hours: Full-time

Caseload/Grades: Elementary, Life Skill Transition Age (Grades 3-4)

Number of Students: 6

Behavior Requirements: Students exhibit self-destructive behaviors such as hitting, pinching, etc., towards themselves and others. Candidates must be comfortable working with students with these behaviors.

Requirements:

  • Valid Special Education Certification in Maryland (SPED Cert); Conditional certifications will not be accepted
  • Comfortable working with students exhibiting self-destructive behaviors

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to a small class of elementary students with diverse learning needs, focusing on life skills development
  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans based on students' IEP goals and behavioral intervention plans
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and behavioral strategies to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social-emotional growth
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including behavior specialists, therapists, and support staff to provide comprehensive support to students
  • Create a structured and supportive learning environment that fosters independence, self-regulation, and academic success
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction as needed to meet individualized needs
