Adjunct Instructor of Natural Gas Compression

Compensation:$29.75 - $43.94 per hour, Dependent upon experience and educationCompensation Type:Non-ExemptEmployment Type:Adjunct/Part Time Faculty (Fixed Term)Grade:NE15Position SummaryThis person is responsible primarily for teaching the concepts and workings of screw type and natural gas compressors as well as other courses addressing the principles and practices of oil and gas production industry.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Serves as lead or assistant instructor for courses as assigned. Prepares lectures, labs and assignments. Selects text books. Monitor and records student attendance. Delivers curriculum. Maintains labs and equipment. Grades assignments. Performs course assessment.

  • Communicates with students, potential students, and corporate partners regarding course content, scheduling, and registration.

  • Collaborates with other instructors and Program Coordinator to develop schedules for trainings.

  • Submits grades by deadline.

  • Develops course curriculum.

  • Collaborates in the creation of new and updated technical training courses for the energy industry; designs, develops, implements and evaluates technical training.

  • Contributes to program accreditation functions.

  • Refers students to appropriate College student support resources including tutoring, counseling and advising.

  • Resolves student issues and concerns or refers to Program Coordinator.

  • Communicates regularly with the Program Coordinator; brings forward any concerns related to student conduct.

  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of oil and gas production industry.

  • Knowledge of oil and gas production principles and operations practices.

  • Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of natural gas compressors and related systems.

  • Knowledge of federal safety regulations.

  • Knowledge of the Petroleum Production Operations program.

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of learners in a diverse community.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Dean of the School of Energy assigns work in terms of program goals and objectives. The coordinator reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of program activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include industry standards, safety guidelines, the employee handbook and college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied instructional duties related to instruction. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.

  • The purpose of this position is to provide high quality instruction and to promote the growth and development of the college’s Natural Gas Compression Program through the success of students in those classes, communication with potential students and identification and development of new curriculum. Success in this position contributes to the efficient and effective education of students and to the safe operations and overall success of businesses.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, industry representatives, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information with the knowledge of the coordinator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while standing in front of a class, working in a lab alongside students, sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, and stooping. The employee may lift heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the senses of hearing and smell.

  • The work is typically performed in an office, laboratory or classroom with a possibility of outside in inclement weather. The employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts, high voltage lines, steam lines and other equipment. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field and at least five (5) years of related experience.

  • Otherwise, experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with 10+ years of experience in the field.

  • Specific oil and gas production program knowledge and certifications are preferred.

  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of employees in oil and gas industry, to be able to answer questions and provide relevant examples, usually associated with five or more years of work experience.
