Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking an Aeronautical Engineer to provide technical support at Robins AFB. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the directorate in the performance of disciplined engineering activities to assure OSS&E for all products.
  • Support the mechanical systems integrity program, maintain and update the critical safety item list, and monitor airworthiness certification for the aircraft.
  • Participate in capability development activities and produce or review products related to early planning, analysis, and systems engineering activities provide to linkages between operational needs, system performance requirements, technology needs & opportunities, potential lifecycle costs, and establishes a technical foundation for materiel development.
  • Participate in capability development activities and produce or review products related to exploratory or experimentation projects such as, but not limited to, RIF, Rapid Prototyping Program (RPP); SBIR and Pitch Days to insert science and technology anywhere in the portfolio of a PEO.
  • Apply an understanding of DoD, United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defence (MOD) and common engineering/scientific principles, processes and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future UK and Virtual Fleet weapon systems.
  • Assist in changes introduced through MAA, Notification of Authorized Amendments (NAA) and prepare compliance evidence to address those changes.
  • Assist with the development of requirements and technology needs into action plans and policies necessary to improve and retain world-class manufacturing, operations, re-manufacturing and disposal of weapon system capabilities within the UK C-17 Delivery Team (DT).
  • Perform as an interface between the MAA and the Contractor (Boeing) regarding the MAAs Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS), Contractor Flying Approved Organization Scheme (CFAOS) and the Maintenance Approved Organization Scheme (MAOS) ensuring the respective organization Scheme Expositions comply with MAA regulations.
  • Brief the status of MAA Regulatory Compliance at the UK C-17 DT Safety and Integrity Meetings and at the annual 2-Star Equipment Safety Review.
  • Perform an audit schedule for all DT Safety Documents and Work Instructions (WI) and ensure that reviews are carried out against that schedule.
  • Support those reviews and provide input to all documents.
  • Provide support to the UK C-17 DT in an airworthiness and safety role.
  • Maintain and administer an audit scheduled of the UK C-17 DT Safety Document set and local Work Instructions.
  • Support the C-17 DT at an annual audit by the DTs Independent Safety Advisor and additional ad hoc audits initiated by the MAA.
  • Analyze manage the DT Hermes Regulatory Compliance database; update and amend compliance evidence to capture changing regulatory requirements or Contractor (Boeing) or DT process changes.

Qualifications

10+ years experience in aeronautical engineering including at least 3 years working in a DoD environment. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Possess the advanced knowledge, experience and recognized ability to be considered an expert in the technical/professional field, possess the ability to perform tasks and oversee the efforts of junior and journeyman personnel within the technical/professional discipline. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical/professional discipline as well as possess a comprehensive understanding and ability to apply associated standards, procedures and practices in their area of expertise. Understands UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulations and the impacts that changes to those regulations. Able to demonstrate an extensive knowledge of the C-17 Weapon System and UK MOD Regulations and requirements. Understands US Government Safety Meetings and Integrity Programs and their applicability and interface with UK DT equivalents. Knowledge of aeronautical engineering in support of subsystem definition, development, integration, all verification methods to include review of ICDs, sustainment, modeling/simulation, test and evaluation, and airworthiness certification across a wide range of hardware and software systems. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Applications, Adobe Acrobat, and web applications. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
