Description

Midway University is actively seeking candidates for our Equine Farm Manager. We are a teaching farm and the farm manager will directly supervise three (3) farm staff as well as work directly with students. The farm employs 4-10 work study students as well as winter and summer break help. The farm manager also provides oversight for students and student managers during their mandatory chore times.

Duties may include, but not be limited to:

  • Oversight of the University farm including facilities, equipment, and pastures.
  • Oversight for students and student managers during their mandatory chore times.
  • Coordinate with two herd managers to oversee equine herd health and coordinate herd usage for both academic classes and athletic teams.
  • Develop feeding plans for different classes of horses.
  • Responsible for coordinating horse trials, donations, leases, and retirements.
  • Schedules professional service providers: veterinarian, dentist and farrier.
  • Performs the administrative tasks of running a farm including activities such as:
  • scheduling annual equine veterinary examinations, treatments, vaccinations, and other care;
  • managing the farm budget;
  • scheduling employees;
  • approving timecards and balancing employee workloads.
  • oversees lease and donations process for horses, following established University guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in equine management or other equine related field preferred, a minimum of 4 years of farm and personnel management experience required

Clear background and driving record required.

Experience in designing and managing a farm budget needed. Must be able to use typical farm equipment (tractor, drags, truck and trailer, mower). Knowledge of equine related veterinarian equipment a must, as well as knowledge of equine lameness evaluation, basic equine first aid. Ability to develop feeding plans for different classes of horses, and pasture management required.
