Description:

JOBPURPOSE:
Provides speech-language pathology services bycoordinating consultations and diagnostic evaluations with patientshaving known or suspected communication disorders and/ororopharyngeal dysphagia; and interpreting assessment data; planningand performing speech-language pathology treatment interventionprograms when appropriate that restore function, prevent disabilityand help patients reach maximum potential. Provides patient care toall age groups to include neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric.Responsible for the supervision of rehabilitation technicians,students, and observers. May be responsible for orientation andongoing guidance of assignedstaff.

Qualifications:

MINIMUMEDUCATION REQUIRED:
Masters Degree in Speech-LanguagePathology/Communication Disorders from an accredited graduateschool. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association(ASHA).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:
None.

MINIMUMLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Licensure by theGeorgia Board of Examiners of Speech/Language Pathology. BLScertification through AHA or ARC.

ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS:
None

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides professional speech-languagepathology services to all age groups, to ensure quality of patientcare and to restore function.
a. Maintains patient recordincluding evaluations, plan of care, treatment goals, and progressnotes, documenting patient responses to treatment and patenteducation. Uses objective data with clear and concise language inthe patient record.
b. Provides direct patient care,utilizing modalities and techniques appropriate for patients fromneonates to geriatrics. Demonstrates skills and accuracy inperforming patient care, conducting tests and measurements asappropriate.
2. Assists with measuring quality andoutcomes.
3. Consults with physicians, nursing staff, andother rehabilitative team members to determine plan of action forthe patient including therapeutic modifications and dischargeplanning.
4. Maintains and documents active and supportivecommunication with the patient, and other appropriate persons,concerning progress, problems, home programs, and other issuesrelated to the therapeutic process.
