Full Time School-Based Sign Language Interpreter Needed

Soliant Education is seeking a skilled and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for a full-time position for the upcoming school year. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating communication and ensuring they have equal access to educational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and effective interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language for students in various educational settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they can fully participate in all school activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to support students' academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing educational materials and planning for specialized vocabulary and concepts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the professional code of conduct for interpreters.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant conferences to provide insights and recommendations regarding communication needs and accommodations for students.


Qualifications:

  • Certification in American Sign Language interpreting (e.g., RID, NIC, or state equivalent).
  • Previous experience working as an ASL interpreter in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
