The Department of Healthcare Leadership & Management is the home of three professional practice programs within the College of Health Professions: Master in Health Administration, Master of Science in Health Informatics, and Doctor of Health Administration. The Master in Healthcare Administration (MHA) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and is recognized by CAHME as a member of the CAHME Mentorship Circle (CMC). The MHA program is ranked 19th by the U.S. News & World Report, and offers both residential and executive tracks for full-time students and working healthcare professionals, respectively. The Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), and offers full-time, part-time, and a concurrent degree program for students enrolled in the Pharm.D. program (PharmD/MSHI). The Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) program is designed to allow ambitious healthcare professionals to turn their clinical or administrative experiences into opportunities to teach, shape public policy, and/or lead complex organizations. The DHA curriculum focuses on leadership and management, applied research methods, health policy, change management, health information management, population health management, and healthcare finance, with additional elective courses in advanced health information systems, leadership and operations, and telehealth.
The College of Health Professions is ranked 3rd in the nation in terms of total NIHfunding among Schools of Allied Health & Health Professions. Faculty and students collaborate with a broad range of educators, clinicians, and researchers across the state, and several faculty hold dual appointments between CHP and in other MUSC Colleges. The Department of Healthcare Leadership & Management strives to improve the management of the healthcare delivery system by educating current and future healthcare leaders in an interprofessional environment, engaging in excellence in scholarly activities, and providing service to the university, the region, and the professional community. The Department serves the citizens of South Carolina and beyond in meeting healthcare management needs by preparing students for careers in healthcare management, analytics, and leadership positions in health services organizations.
The College seeks candidates who possess strong academic leadership experience and can articulate a bold vision for the advancement of the Department. The Chair is expected to effectively manage administrative, budgetary, scholarly, and instructional duties, with the opportunity to engage in externally funded research. Excellent leadership skills, experience in mentorship, along with the ability to work collaboratively are essential. Ongoing professional growth opportunities in leadership building are available. Additionally, the College seeks candidates with a strong growth mindset who will implement innovative ideas and practices within the department. Candidates should hold an academic appointment at the rank of associate or full professor and possess a Ph.D. or other earned terminal academic degree (doctoral degree required). Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
MUSC is committed to providing culturally competent care and ensuring that organizational priorities and goals pertaining to equity, inclusion, and excellence are institutionalized, sustained, and measured to “create an inclusive experience for the lives we touch.” MUSC has received the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award seven years in a row (2017 – 2023) from INSIGHT in Diversity, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
