As a Lead FPGA Engineer you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of FPGA-based solutions within the nxtRF Division. This role requires extensive experience in FPGA design, digital signal processing (DSP), system integration, and strong leadership skills. The Lead FPGA Engineer will oversee project planning and monitoring, ensuring timely and successful delivery of FPGA solutions. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, reliable, and scalable FPGA solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.

JOB OVERVIEW

  • Lead project planning activities, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource allocation. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
  • Lead the design and development of FPGA-based solutions for RF systems, including high-speed data processing, digital signal processing, and control functions. Optimize FPGA designs for performance, power consumption, and resource utilization.
  • Develop and define the overall system architecture for FPGA-based solutions. Ensure the architecture meets performance, scalability, and reliability requirements. Collaborate with other engineers to ensure cohesive system design.
  • Implement and optimize DSP algorithms on FPGAs to process RF signals, including filtering, modulation/demodulation, and error correction. Ensure high performance and real-time processing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, RF engineers, and software developers to integrate FPGA solutions into system-level designs. Ensure seamless integration and compatibility with other system components.
  • Assist in developing and executing test plans to verify and validate FPGA designs. Work with development and test team to conduct simulations, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and field testing to ensure functionality and performance meet specifications.
  • Generate detailed design documentation, including system architecture diagrams, block diagrams, HDL code, simulation results, and test reports. Maintain accurate records of design changes, revisions, and configurations. Ensure comprehensive documentation is available for all design and development processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and performance enhancement in FPGA design and development. Implement best practices, standards, and methodologies to optimize design and development workflows.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, hardware design, and software development, to ensure project success. Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the FPGA engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

CITIZENSHIP & CLEARANCE

  • We can only accept applicants that are US Citizens.
  • An active (or active within the last 2 years) Secret (or higher) level of DoD security clearance is desired but not required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in FPGA design and development, with a focus on RF technologies or related fields.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong expertise in FPGA design using VHDL/Verilog, digital signal processing, and system integration.
  • Proficiency with FPGA development tools, such as Xilinx Vivado and ModelSim.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design, signal integrity, and timing analysis.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to plan, monitor, and deliver complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in system architecture design and documentation.
  • Experience in the defense industry or government contracting environment is highly desirable.
