Description

POSITIONSUMMARY: Ability to work independently with minimalinstructions. Provides pick up and delivery service for variousclients maintains appropriate logs and records and performs variousclerical functions as specifically instructed.  Transportsvarious items and Hazardous materials to and from various locationsand vendors, ensuring proper care of items handled duringtransport.  Provides and/or maintenance of departmentvehicle(s).  Delivers medical specimens as appropriate to theposition, following safety, environmental, and infection controlmethods.   Maintains accurate transportation logs,vehicle fuel consumption logs, and other data as required. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Organizes and directs courier routes.



Requirements

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  High schooldiploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Valid New Mexico’s Driver’s license. 

SKILLS: 

  • Must be proficientat receiving specimens and following written procedures forprocessing to communicate effectively
  • Must beable to operate laboratory equipment, computer systems, and managesupply inventory system
  • Must be able to retaincomposure under stress, to move quickly but effectively to meetpatient care needs
  • Must be able to time managea high volume of assignments as expeditiously aspossible
  • Must be able to understand and followsafety procedures
  • Must be able & lift andmanipulate heavy objects
  • Must be able to readand write English and be able to communicateeffectively.

EXPERIENCE:  Priorrelated work experience in a fast-paced medical environmentpreferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsibleto:  Laboratory Director / Manager of OutreachLaboratory Accounts

 ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen  

(Routine Exposure Risk. Routine exposure in daily duties.  Exposed to potentiallyinfectious material on a regular basis and is part of the expectedjob task.)

Generally works in well lighted,ventilated area.  Exposure to disagreeable odors, toxic fumes,and high noise levels and fluctuations in temperatures. Position involves high risk exposure to carcinogenic, hazardous andflammable chemicals; biohazardous and radioactive materials; sharpneedles and blades; infectious diseases; toxic fumes. Subject tomental stress from working with infectious materials and reportingresults which directly affect patient care.  Activities of thejob are carried out indoors, at blood drawing stations, or at adesk, bench or bedside.  Occasionally, employees may berequired to transport themselves to perform their duties at HealthFairs or a patient’s place of residence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to work more than a standard shiftas dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure. Sitting, standing, and stooping may be involved throughout theentire shift.  Must be able to lift >30lbs.
