The Highlights: Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Academic and Library Affairs, the Director of Business and Administration serves in a senior administrative capacity for the University Library and works with the AVP and Administrative Team on financial planning, policy development, communication, and assessment in support of the library and University missions. The Director of Business and Administration is responsible for oversight of the administrative operation of the University Library, including: budget, human resources, facilities operations, security, and compliance with library and University policies and procedures. 
  The Director will work in a highly supportive, collegial culture that encourages active participation in meaningful and valuable skills training and professional development. This includes training workshops, committee memberships, and engagement in programs that support the Library’s mission and its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility goals, while building connections and partnerships across DePaul’s wider academic and user community.  

What You'll Do:

Budget and Financial Management - prepares annual budget and special budgets for the Library; assists the Administrative Team in the preparation of the annual library materials budget; prepares and administers internal budget reports throughout the year; reviews and approves procurement card transactions by library staff; reviews licenses and contracts entered into by the Library on behalf of DePaul University, utilizing the contract review process in the Office of the General Counsel, as appropriate; maintains overall administrative responsibility for the Library in the University's financial records system, including reviewing, on a monthly basis or more frequently as needed, financial reports for all library funds for compliance purposes.

Human Resource Management - coordinates recruitment, hiring, orientation, evaluation, and professional development programs for the University Library; prepares reports for the Associate Vice President related to library salary and recognition programs; serves as liaison to the Office of Human Resources; collaborates with University HR staff, members of the library administration, and other library staff, as appropriate, to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

Facilities Operations - provides oversight for library facilities on all DePaul campuses; coordinates short-term and long-term renovation programs in library facilities; oversees emergency response and disaster recovery programs; coordinates library communications with outside contractors and consultants; serves as liaison to the Department of Facility Operations; serves as liaison to the Office of Public Safety; collaborates with University staff, members of the library administration, and other library staff, as appropriate, to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures

Maintains an awareness of best practices in academic business management through reading in the scholarly and professional literature, participation in relevant conferences, workshops, and professional development programs, and applies lessons learned to current needs in the University Library.

Prepares annual budget and special budgets for the Libraries (annual total of approximately $10 million).

What You'll Need:

Minimum: Undergraduate degree in Business; 6-9 years of progressively more responsible experience in accounting, budgeting, and/or financial administration, preferably in a University setting; Experience in budget planning, financial management, resource allocation, and supervision or human resource management; Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultural identities and foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.

Preferred: MBA, or Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or other relevant advanced degree; Ability to think strategically; experience with or knowledge of change management; and ability to implement and advocate for improvements maximizing efficiency of operations and systems.

Understanding of budgeting for facilities projects, operations, and materials acquisitions; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; excellent planning, project management, budget management, and problem-solving; knowledge of MS Office (advanced Excel skills preferred - pivot tables, if then statements, etc.), other routine information technology applications employed at the library or University level, and enterprise-level systems employed for the management of library collections or the provision of library services.

Travel between DePaul University campuses may be required.

 

The anticipated hiring range for this position is: 74,367.00 to $100,000.  The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
