Soliant Education is seeking a qualified Life Skills Special Education Teacher to join our team in the Oakley, WY area This full-time, on-site position for the 2024-2025 school year offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students with intellectual disabilities by preparing them for a fulfilling life after high school graduation.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with a team of educators and specialists to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs and goals of high school students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Design and deliver engaging instruction in essential life skills areas such as:
    • Functional academics (reading, writing, math) applied to real-world situations
    • Daily living skills (self-care, personal hygiene, cooking, budgeting)
    • Career exploration and job readiness skills
    • Social communication and interpersonal skills
    • Community mobility and independent living skills
    • Self-advocacy and self-determination skills
  • Utilize a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiated learning approaches to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters independence, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging for students.
  • Partner with families and community agencies to develop a comprehensive transition plan that prepares students for post-secondary education, employment opportunities, and independent living after graduation.
  • Monitor student progress, analyze data, and report on the effectiveness of instructional strategies to inform ongoing learning plans for students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in life skills education for students with intellectual disabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Wyoming State Teaching License with a valid endorsement in Special Education or a related field, with a focus on life skills education for students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Prior experience working with students with intellectual disabilities in a high school setting is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and the unique needs of students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective individualized education programs (IEPs) focused on life skills development and transition planning.
  • Expertise in a variety of life skills areas, such as functional academics, daily living skills, career exploration, and community mobility.
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills to create a positive and engaging learning environment for students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, families, and school staff, including general education teachers, specialists, and related service providers.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting on student progress.
  • A passion for helping students with intellectual disabilities maximize their potential and achieve independence in all aspects of life.
