These are systems administrators who are responsible for implementing and maintaining IT systems supporting research activities. The Systems Professional series is a five-level series that supports research facilitation, research data management, high performance computing, high throughput computing, hosting, and other types of systems administration. Currently seeking applications for a Research Computing Senior Systems Engineer (Systems Professional IV) or Research Computing Systems Architect (Systems Professional V).The organizational levels in this series include:Research Computing Senior Systems Engineer (Systems Professional IV)Research Computing Systems Architect (Systems Professional V)Examples of Duties:RC Senior Systems EngineerLead the planning, building, and configuration of RC systems at scaleSet standards for monitoring and maintaining the health and integrity of RC systemsUpgrading and patching of RC systemsDesign and implement robust and secure IT solutions supporting research, including systems that meet data compliance standardsDefine and track performance metrics to ensure efficient use of resourcesSupport and collaborate with researchers and other key IT partners (e.g. Network, Security, Operations, and Client Services)Build and maintain relationships with external vendor technicians and engineersCollaborate with and may provide leadership to other personnel within the RC ecosystemRegularly contribute best practices documentation and knowledge transferMay supervise junior staff or student employeesLead trainings on RC resources, including specific software or toolsProvide in-depth consultation with researchers through regular engagementsRC Systems ArchitectProvide expert operational knowledge of RC systems at scale that provides performance improvements in complex environmentsDevelop next generation RC architectures to address compute and data intensive research problemsDevelop enhancements to maintain integrity of RC systemsCollaborate with domain researchers regularly and other key IT partners (e.g. Network, Security, Operations, and Client Services) to address future needsLeads and participates with Systems Engineers within the national RC ecosystemWill lead trainings of RC systems and/or domain research, including specific software or toolsDevelop next generation workflows or debug complex issues with a deep understanding of cutting-edge technology, software, or toolsQualifications:Minimum QualificationsRC Senior Systems EngineerMinimum of 9 years’ relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these twoBroad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.)Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisorSpecialized knowledge in specific technologiesAbility to lead development of specific technologiesRC Systems ArchitectMinimum of 11 years’ relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience, including a combination of these twoBroad knowledge of deployment and administration of RC systems (e.g. storage, compute, virtualization, networking, database, etc.)Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and ability to act as trusted advisorExtensive knowledge in specific technologiesAbility to lead development of specific technologiesApplication Instructions: Please apply online with your resume, cover letter and list of three professional references.Review of candidates will begin following the application closing date.
