Responsibilities

Under occasional supervision, performs general police duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws and University rules and regulations relating to public safety and welfare. Supervises subordinate officers through the chain of command. May coordinate and implement officer training programs. Maintains records and prepares reports as required. Reports to the Director of Campus Police.

Develops a strategy and manages the department’s efforts to assures IACLEA guidelines and standards are followed.Supervises shift Sergeants. Assures that all supervisors keep their staff abreast of policies and procedures and monitors their compliance; assures that supervisors are supervising in accordance with University and departmental policies.Maintains liaison with local, state, and municipal governments, as well as civic organizations and private citizens to establish partnerships that facilitate the Department’s functions; promotes University safety and community policing programs.Investigates and reports findings of internal investigations to the Director of Campus Police.Responds to all medical emergencies, performing appropriate treatment procedures and/or transporting patient to hospital.Prepares and submits incident reports.Assists in conducting fire drills and evacuating buildings.Supervises subordinate officers through chain of command; performs such supervisory duties as instructing; assigning and reviewing work; maintaining standards, and acting on employee problems. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.Inspects equipment for safety and proper working condition. Ensures subordinates are properly uniformed and equipped for daily tasks.Reviews reports submitted by subordinate officers; completes and submits required records and reports; maintains files as assigned.Attends hearings and provides court testimony as required.
Qualifications

Requires an Associate's degree in criminal justice supplemented by three to five years of experience in law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience. Must possess N.C. Basic Law Enforcement Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications, and a valid state driver's license.
