The Category Manager positionis responsible for the development and implementationof   category specific strategies that deliver profitablegrowth.

Responsibilities includeoverall management and success of a group or category ofnon-consumable products related to Grocery, Food Service,Janitorial and Processor business segments.

It’simportant to note that brand strategy, private label development,and sustainable packaging product lines are important strategiesmanaged by this position and integral to the success of therole.

The ideal candidate will have success indeveloping and managing strategic relationships with domestic andimport manufacturers in order to maximize product profitabilitythroughout its lifecycle.

This position is alsoresponsible for managing strategic supplier relationships anddefining the appropriate brand strategy for the categoriesassigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of assigned product categoryperformance and management of the overall health of theportfolio.
  • Strategic engagement with suppliercommunity to develop and implement initiatives that enableprofitable growth.
  • Monitor the health ofassigned categories and manage the product lifecycle.
  • Develop category and market expertise that allows theorganization to effectively compete in target market segments; thisincludes market trends and competitive analysis, as inputs to thedevelopment of our assortment strategy.
  • Leverage market intelligence to validate andbenchmark costs and competitive pricing.
  • Monitor market needs and trends, competitive products,and the changing production schedules of approved manufacturers toimprove competitive positioning.
  • Work todevelop "Best Value" product opportunities that include bestperformance, customer acceptance, and continuousimprovement.
  • Develop product pricing policiesand negotiate best cost vendor programs to improve productpositioning while improve margin.
  • Rationalizeand consolidate product lines to improve inventory turns and createvolume cost improvement opportunities.
  • Manage on-going supplier relationships andexecute supplier performance management initiatives in accordancewith standards and guidelines and in collaboration with businesspartners.
  • Managemultiple projects and initiatives within assigned categories withthe ability to meet defined timelines and provide proactive statuscommunication to business partners
  • Establish category ownership with internal and externalstakeholders.
  • Support sales staff with specialproduct requirements and costing. Work to improve go-to-marketstrategy and speed of new product implementation.
  • Support sales staff by problem solving and recommendingnew and different packaging products as they becomeavailable.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degreepreferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in CategoryManagement or relevant business experience is required
  • Distribution experience stronglypreferred. 
  • Solid knowledge of marketingand sales principles
  • Solutions orientedthinker and doer
  • Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills 
  • Demonstrated highly developed experience innegotiation and best in class practices
  • Strong ability to assess and managecontractual, operational, financial and businessrisk
  • Working knowledge of the rawmaterials used in food service, janitorial and processor packagingis preferred with an existing working relationship with packagingmaterial manufacturers is preferred
  •  Ability toeffectively work across a matrix globalorganization
  • A strong ability tocreate a partnership atmosphere with internal and externalresources while achieving key operating
  • Exceptional EQ and influencing skills are required;Ability to work collaboratively across multi-functionalteams.
  • A strong relationship builder who isable to foster excellent relationships and gain credibility quicklyacross all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability leading through The ability todevelop and drive recommendation through the organization, showinginitiative across functions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonalskills
  • Possess strong planning,organizational and time management skills, as well as, stronganalytical problem-solving skills
  • Multi-taskwith the ability to change direction quickly and often
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office mandatory (Excel, Word,PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
