The positionis a cross-functional role that requires the mechanic to providetechnical support for complex electronic, electric, and pneumaticcontrols and instrumentation. The position requires interfacingwith other crafts (boiler mechanics, HVAC mechanics, locksmiths,plumbers, etc. ) to repair and/or install complex control/instrumentation systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots,repairs, fabricates, and/or installs electronic systems, complexgauges, instrumentation repairs, and new parts including mechanicaland electronic interfaces;
  • Troubleshoots,repairs, adjusts, installs, and programs, electronic, electric, andpneumatic controls and instrumentation used to control and measurethe performance of: boilers; access to buildings; buildingautomation systems; fire protection systems; material handlingsystems (elevators, etc.); time management systems; and energymeasurement systems;
  • Programs PLC(programmable logic control) and/or microprocessor-basedsystems;
  • Calibrates instruments for accuracyrequiring fine tolerances; recalibrate any instruments or gaugesthat do not meet the manufacturer's performancespecification;
  • Rebuilds instruments whenappropriate, including acquiring necessary parts andtools;
  • Assists with data communication designand installations;
  • Maintains time and materialrecords; prepares work reports in accordance with standardoperating procedures;
  • Performs inspections andmakes recommendations for system upgrades andrenovations;
  • Uses computer to access e-mail,receive work instructions and other administrative informationincluding electronic payroll forms;
  • Communicates daily using a two-way radio and/or pagersystem in order to respond to work-related routine and emergencyinformation;
  • Ensures shop equipment is inproper working condition;
  • Performs all otherrelated duties asassigned.

Qualifications:

  • Requiresa high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum four (4) years experience in instrumentation,measurement, and control, electronics, electrical, and/or amechanical program. Associate's degree from a post-secondarytechnical school in Electronics or Process Instrumentation andControl preferred. Four (4) years of experience in industrialmaintenance environment troubleshooting PLC software, I/O, andfield devices and working with mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulicsystems preferred.
  • Certification as ajourneyman in the instrumentation trade and ISA Certified ControlSystems Technician (CSST) Program Level II in addition to a highschool diploma or GED may be substituted for the requirededucation.
  • Experience working in a maintenancedepartment, preferably in an automated food processingplant.
  • Knowledge of equipment set-up,functions, operating procedures, and preventative maintenancetechniques.
  • Basic knowledge of programmablelogic controllers (PLCs) ispreferred.

Shift: 2nd(2:00 pm - 10:30 am must work weekends)
