Detention Counselor

TheDetention Counselor is a uniformed, security trainedmember of the Unit Management Team responsible for resolving dailyinmate issues before they become significant matters, incidents orgrievances.  They will ensure that services and programs aredelivered to inmates assigned to the unit at a time and manner asdesigned.

• Maintain a caseload ofinmates with the primary purpose of resolving daily living issuesbefore they expand into significant incidents.
• Make daily rounds through assignedunits talking with staff and inmates, observing operations andinteractions between staff and inmates on the unit, ensuring theunit is operating in a safe and secure manner and anticipatessituations.Conduct one-on-onemeetings with inmates regarding grievance or potential grievancematters and resolve the situation within the framework ofpolicy.
• Develop an interactive working relationship withinmates that support the informal resolution of inmateissues.
• Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationshipwith institution departments built on respect that supports problemsolving.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED certification orequivalent.
• Three years of Correctional/Detention Officerexperience is required.
• A valid driver's license isrequired.
• Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years ofage.
